Angela-Knight-001Energy is now centre-stage in the UK’s list of major national concerns – at all levels.  Are all our lights going to go out?  – is the trendy question.  Government, energy producers, scientists, environmentalists  and consumers all have differing views – as well as some common views – but mostly centred around the belief that we are all, in differing ways and to different extents,  behind the curve in preparing for the future.

Energy UK is the trade association for the energy industry. They represent over 80 members made up of generators and gas and electricity suppliers of all kinds and sizes as well as other businesses operating in the energy industry. Together their members generate more than 90 per cent of the UK’s total electricity output, supplying more than 26 million homes and investing in 2012 more than £11 billion in the British economy.  Energy UK provide a source of expert advice on industry matters and work to enhance the industry’s reputation with customers and with the communities it serves.

Angela Knight is Chief Executive of Energy UK.

Before joining Energy UK, Angela Knight was Chief Executive at the British Bankers Association for five years, in which capacity she spoke at Devonshire House. Previously she was Chief Executive of the Association of Private Client Investment Managers and Stockbrokers for 9 years. She was honoured with a CBE for services to the financial services industry in 2007. Angela  was Economic Secretary to the Treasury from 1995- 1997, after being Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Rt Hon Kenneth Clarke MP, Chancellor of the Exchequer, and before that to Industry Minister Sir Tim Sainsbury MP. She was MP for Erewash from 1992 – 1997. She graduated from Bristol University with a degree in chemistry and worked at Air Products before jointly setting up and running the company Cook & Knight Ltd for 6 years.
